What We Do.

Theoretical Influences and Clinical Approach
We approach therapy as an act of social justice both at an individual level and systemically. We work from an awareness of intersectionality, anti-racism, and contextual considerations to promote change both in clients, but also in the world.

Our theoretical underpinnings include Relational Psychodynamic Therapy, Feminist and Queer theory, and numerous trauma therapy approaches. At the core of our work is a focus on the clinical relationship and the creation of a space to be authentic and open.  We center attachment theory and how early relationships inform our current ones. We also emphasize not just the mind, but also the body, particularly in how it holds trauma.

Our primary areas of clinical expertise include:
  • Trauma therapy including survivors of sexual assault and early childhood abuse
  • Gender and sexuality including non-binary and trans youth.
  • Working with children, adolescents, and young adults
  • Exploration of all aspects of identity, relationships, and "stuckness".
  • Emphasis on context and intersectionality and their influence on psychological well-being including race, gender, ability, socio-economic status, and more.

Gender Affirming Care
We have a particular interest and expertise in supporting individuals through the process of exploring their gender and sexuality. Whether you identify on the LGBTQIA+ spectrum, or are unsure, we are here to support you as you further your own understanding of your gender and/ or sexuality.  We are also well versed in working in collaboration with medical  and community support services in the area.

Dr. Foster Fink is an experienced in letter writing for surgery and insurance coverage for gender related medical care.

Trans and non-binary youth

The experience of gender non-conforming children and teens can be emotionally complex and isolating. We have particular experience and knowledge in working with trans children and youth as well as supporting their parents through the complex journey of raising a gender non-conforming child. We are closely connected with local resources and can advocate for you in numerous contexts including medical care, social supports, and school.

Clinical Supervision and Mentorship

Dr Foster Fink has had the pleasure of supervising and mentoring a number of young clinicians as they develop and hone their skill as psychotherapists and navigate early career decisions. Clinical supervision goes beyond case review and "how to's" to explore the relational  and intersectional dynamics and transferences / counter transferences of each therapy. I emphasize the integration of theory and practice as well as the therapist's own personal history in deepening one's clinical work.
