Sophie Fink, PsyD

Clinical Psychologist
Education and Training
Picture
I am a graduate of Tufts University and William James College (Massachusetts School of Professional Psychology).  My training emphasized development across the lifespan, and the exploration of the interaction between one's internal and external context. I have nearly ten years of experience in a variety of settings including outpatient group practices, college counseling centers, acute inpatient, and partial programs.  I have worked with a diverse clinical population and aim to provide culturally competent and person-centered therapy.

I have completed the following post-graduate training and certifications:
  • Institute for Relational Psychoanalysis Foundations Year Course
  • Institute for Relational Psychoanalysis year long study group: Gender Identity and        Psychotherapy
  • Attachment Focused Family Therapy Level I Certified
  • EMDR Level I Certified.

Clinical Focus
My primary areas of clinical expertise include:
  • Trauma therapy including surviving sexual assault and early childhood abuse
  • Gender and sexuality including gender non-binary and trans youth.
  • Working with children, adolescents and young adults
  • Exploration of all aspects of identity, relationships, and "stuckness".
  • Emphasis on context and intersectionality and its influence on psychological wellbeing including race, gender, ability, socio-economic status, and more.
I pride myself in approaching therapy as an act of social justice both at an individual level but also systemically. I approach therapy with an awareness of intersectionality, anti-racism, and contextual considerations to promote change both in my clients, but also in the world.

Theoretical Underpinnings
I believe healing happens in relationship, and that early experiences lay the foundation for how we understand ourselves and live our lives.  I believe that change happens in the context of a safe and authentic therapeutic relationship where one can explore early experience and how it is alive and well in one's day to day life. Whether one is stuck in a pattern of unhealthy relationships, low self esteem, or processing the aftermath of traumatic experiences, I work collaboratively to help my clients gain insight and a greater sense of ease.

I believe that context is deeply related to one's psychological functioning and I explore systems of power and privilege from an intersectional standpoint and aim to understand and challenge pathologizing narratives that result from social marginalization.

While I lead with the client in mind, my approach is primarily influence by:
  • Relational and Psychodynamic Theory
  • Feminist Theory
  • Attachment Theory
  • Somatic Therapies and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
  • Internal Family Systems Therapy
